Building Active Lives for Everyone in Our Community

We create spaces where people with disabilities can explore, connect, and enjoy meaningful leisure experiences across Negeri Sembilan and beyond.

What We Actually Do

Running Yimbolex means thinking about leisure differently. Most programs treat disability as something to overcome. We don't see it that way.

Our work centers on creating genuine opportunities for people to do what they enjoy. Swimming, art classes, weekend getaways, sports clinics. The activities change based on what participants want to explore.

We've spent years building relationships with venues, instructors, and families throughout Seremban and surrounding areas. That network lets us move quickly when someone expresses interest in trying something new.

Programs That Fit Different Interests

Each program developed from conversations with participants and families about what was missing in their lives.

Movement Programs

Swimming sessions at accessible pools, adaptive sports clinics, hiking groups with modified trails. Physical activity options that work around individual needs rather than forcing conformity.

Creative Workshops

Art classes, music sessions, drama groups. Creative expression through whatever medium clicks for each person. We partner with local artists who understand how to adapt their teaching.

Social Gatherings

Weekend trips, community events, regular meetups. Structured social opportunities that give people a chance to build friendships beyond their usual circles.

How We Set Up New Experiences

1

Initial Conversation

We start by talking about interests, concerns, and what hasn't worked in the past. These conversations happen at our Senawang office or wherever feels comfortable.

2

Matching Process

Based on what we learn, we suggest specific programs or activities. Sometimes that means connecting with an existing group. Other times we need to create something new.

3

Trial Period

First few sessions are exploratory. We check in frequently to see if the setup works or needs adjustment. Most activities need some tweaking after we see them in action.

4

Ongoing Support

Once someone settles into regular participation, we stay connected but step back. The goal is independence, not constant supervision. We're available when questions or challenges come up.

Who Runs These Programs

Our team brings different backgrounds, but everyone here has direct experience supporting people with disabilities in community settings.

Ainara Etxeberria

Program Coordinator

Before joining Yimbolex, Ainara spent eight years working with disability sports programs in Kuala Lumpur. She moved to Seremban in 2023 and brought expertise in adaptive recreation. She handles program scheduling and venue partnerships.

Taavi Mäkelä

Community Liaison

Taavi connects families with appropriate programs and maintains relationships with local venues. His background includes social work and recreation therapy. He's usually the first person families talk to when exploring options.

Liisi Koppel

Activities Specialist

Liisi designs and leads creative workshops. She has training in art therapy and has worked with various community centers throughout Malaysia. She's particularly good at adapting activities on the fly based on participant engagement.

Siiri Tamm

Operations Manager

Siiri manages logistics, budgets, and administrative systems. She joined in late 2024 after working in nonprofit management. Her focus is making sure programs run smoothly so coordinators can focus on participants.

What Happens Over Time

Building Confidence Through Swimming

One participant started with water therapy sessions in March 2024 because her physiotherapist recommended it. She was nervous about pools and group settings. After six months of weekly sessions, she joined the recreational swimming group and recently completed her first 400-meter swim.

Three years later, she now mentors new participants who are anxious about water activities.

Finding Community Through Art

A young man joined our art workshops in October 2024 primarily because his family wanted him to have weekly social interaction. He wasn't particularly interested in art initially. Within months, he was spending hours on his pieces and started displaying work at local exhibitions.

By 2025, he had formed close friendships with three other workshop participants and they now meet independently outside program hours.

Expanding Social Circles

A participant who had mostly interacted with family members joined our weekend social group in mid-2024. Initial outings were challenging. She needed significant support and often left early. Over eighteen months, she gradually increased participation time and comfort level.

Currently, she regularly attends monthly trips and has developed lasting friendships that extend beyond our organized activities.
